Video Of The Day- Midnight Cry- Gold City with Craig West

December 31, 2010 3 comments

A video of Craig Wests debut concert with Gold City has already been posted.  Below is the video along with my thoughts on said video.

As you can tell from the video Craig is a very capable and gifted singer; He still reminds me of a young Ivan Parker with more range. I have to say quite honestly that Craig has the potential to be the best Gold City lead singer since Parker… I see a great future for Craig with Gold City providing he sticks around; also look for Craig to possibly take home the Horizon Individual award at the SN fan awards this upcoming year.

as for This particular lineup while not the best of the Gold City tenure, has the potential to be right up there. They just absolutely have to have some stability at the lead and tenor spots; If Tim comes off the road then Chris West would be a very capable and well suited replacement. I hope for nothing but the best for Gold City.

*Thanks go to Dinana of the SG concerts blog for getting this video up so quickly!

Tony Jarman To Join Down East Boys

December 29, 2010 1 comment

The Down East Boys have announced that Tony Jarman (formerly of Legacy Five, Poet Voices and The Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet) will be starting with them singing tenor on January 13th. His predecessor Jason Runnels is leaving the group after eight years, and will leave on good terms.

As for Tony he has always been a favorite of mine as far as tenors go; I am looking forward to seeing the DEB’s with Tony and getting any future recordings with Tony involved!

Merry Christmas

December 24, 2010 3 comments

I just wanted to say a merry Christmas to my faithful readers; I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and that you will remember the true reason for this very spiecal Holiday and that is Jesus Christ.

On another blogging related note,I regrettably did not get my review of Greater Visions Everything Christmas CD written in time for Christmas.  I have been working so much lately that I have barely had time to do much of anything besides sleep and work! However my good buddy Aaron Swain will have a review of this particular CD up today on his blog I encourage you to check it out since he always has stellar reviews! I will post a link to the actual review as it becomes available today. Here is the link to his review; as always he did a great job.

As far as the future on this blog; I have this coming week off, and I plan on having some stuff flying at you throughout the week hopefully a CD review will be in the mix.  Also included will be a big feature next weekend on my first ever Legacy Five Celebration event. It should be epic, as it will have some of the best groups on the road today featured. Including; The Booth Brothers, The Collingsworth Family, Greater Vision, Legacy Five and Triumphant Quartet. I am very excited to get the chance to attend this event! It was a Christmas gift from some very dear friends and family of mine! I will be doing some live twittering from the event and reviews of each concert. So be looking for that next weekend.

Craig West To Join Gold City

December 19, 2010 1 comment

Singing News is reporting that Gold City has hired Craig West as their new lead singer; I believe this is a great fit for Gold City vocally as Craig is a great singer, he will bring a modern sound to the group. He is I believe very similar to Ivan Parker with a little similarity to  Michael English in his voice. Below is a video of Craig singing “I Bowed On My Knees And Cried Holy”. On another interesting note Craig is also the brother of new sound man for Gold City, Chris West. He is also good friends with Brent Mitchell whom he has sang with before as evidenced below in the video of Craig singing “I Bowed On My Knees And Cried Holy”. I am truly looking forward to hearing Craig sing with Gold City.

Bruce Taliaferro To Resign From Gold City

December 18, 2010 3 comments

Daniel Mount is reporting that Bruce Taliaferro (lead singer for Gold City) will be leaving the group, effective immediately. I have to say that I am not all that suprised, as I have heard rumblings of such a change for several months now. I will definitely miss Bruce with Gold City, as he brought a soulful rich sound to that lead singer spot.

As for replacements; if I were Daniel Riley I would zero in on one name, and that is Josh Feemster. Josh would be a perfect fit vocally, and personality wise. I could, however also see Ryan Seaton possibly fitting in with Gold City; but Josh is, in my opinion a no brainier pick for the Gold City lead position. We will find out in a week or two.

Studio Singing; Demo For “Somebody Touched Me”

December 9, 2010 11 comments

A couple of weeks ago David Bruce Murray put up a blog post about finding demos for Southern Gospel soundtracks; these demos give you the chance to hear what certain singers sound like on another groups signature songs. Well I have found one that interests me greatly; Crossroads is coming out with a soundtrack next month of “Somebody Touched Me”, with Chris Allman of Greater Vision featured as the vocalist on the demo. Check it out here.

I personally would love to see Greater Vision put this one on their upcoming (2012) Quartets II project. Chris is one of the purest and best tenors on the road today and this demo is no exception.

Some Blog Posts Worth Reading From Around The Blogging World

December 7, 2010 Leave a comment
  • I posted recently that Tim Parton had started a personal website and personal blog; his personal blog is a great read especially on Sunday’s when he posts his breakdown of a well known hymn, he has titled each post of that sort The Sunday Hymn. Anyway onto to what this post is about, last week Tim posted a look into his life as a busy musician. It is a very interesting read, if that is something that interests you. Check it out here.
  • Kyle Boering is back with more recording oddities; check out his post here and keep an eye out for like minded posts from Kyle they are always very interesting.
  • Check out Steve Eatons review of the  Freeman’s new CD. Which I personally believe is the best CD they have released besides maybe Eye On The Prize; As Eaton says in his review “The sound found on Eyes On The Prize is cemented with the release of Evidence” I couldn’t agree more with that statement. Here is the review
  • Daniel Mount has a post about the recent SG Grammy nominees; He has an interesting take on why he feels some of the nominations are “Head Scratchers” While I agree with Daniel, I don’t really put much stock into awards shows as a measure of the success of a Southern Gospel group or a groups CDs. Check out his post here.

I am hoping to have a few reviews forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.
